Life Cannot Be Bought (Ps 40)

A silly song for a deadly serious psalm.

Verse 1:
Like everybody else, you'll be pushin' up the daisies
It's dust back to dust, take a load off for eternity
Like all of us here, your time will come to an end
You'll kick the bucket, buy the farm, and go to room temp

Chorus 1:
Life cannot be bought
They can't take it with them, no matter what they're worth
Life cannot be bought
Money won't impress then and you can't drive the hearse
Life cannot be bought

Verse 2:
Well, come on along, join the invisible choir
Shuffle off this mortal coil, take a last breath and expire
A good, long dirt nap is part of the plan
You're all signed up for nature's recycling program

Chorus 2:
Life cannot be bought
Look, everybody it's the shepherd of death!
Life cannot be bought
Love will usher us into whatever is next
Life cannot be bought

Verse 3:
On that fine day, you won't have to do the dishes
Like all of us, you'll be in the fertilizer business
Becoming “living challenged," you're returning to dust
You won't be late to catch that one-way bus

Chorus 3:
Life cannot be bought
Don't be too impressed with the wealthy— just relax
Life cannot be bought
Wonder if you've got enough status to pass?
Life cannot be bought
